Some of the basics of getting the deck and crew prepared before setting sail

• Put away all loose things e.g. shoes, books, suntan lotion etc.

• Ensure all lines are neatly coiled and positioned

• Decide what to do with the Bimini and windbreaker

• Dingy - ensure secured

• Navigation systems turned on

• Engine - when turn on ensure water comes out of the exhaust

• Crew briefing and preparation

• Life jackets, ensure all crew have their life jackets at the ready, and know how to attach them, in case needed

• If you are hooked up to the shore remember to detach the electricity cable and hose

• Boom centered and tightened down so doesn’t swing about

• Hand held compass, portable VHF and any other handheld devices are to hand in the cockpit

• Sails - if you do not have furling sails prepare the sails for easy hauling when they are needed
